The educated online marketer should recognise that social networking sites are becoming an increasingly essential part of any campaign, one expert has advised.
Internet expert Rich Schefren, the creator of the Business Acceleration Course, has pointed out the importance of Web 2.0 advertising methods including social networking sites, videoblogs and podcasting, which are replacing more traditional forms of marketing.
"The 'old school' marketing model of interrupting (radio, TV, newspaper) is dead and buried. Just look at the declining TV audiences, plummeting radio listenership and newspaper industry layoffs for the proof," Mr Schefren explained.
The sales of Myspace for $580 million (£292 million) to Robert Murdoch and YouTube to Google for $1.5 billion (£757 million), illustrate the new significance placed on social networking sites.
Strategic Profits, the business advisors estimate that there are 435 million different websites currently on the web, as well as one million blogs.
