The Communications Workers Union (CWU) has called for an end to cutbacks within the postal services if further industrial action is to be avoided.
Mick Kavanagh, who represents postal workers at the Royal Mail Coventry Bishop Street sorting office said that more strikes will be inevitable if the government does not take swift action to change its postal services policy, reports Hell Mail.
Around 1,000 postal workers, activists and pensioners marched through Manchester on Monday, demanding that Labour safeguard the future of Royal Mail and its staff.
Dave Ward, deputy general secretary for the CWU, said that proper funding of Royal Mail is vital to its successful future and crucial to protecting workers' pensions.
Steve Lawson, editor of Hell Mail, commented: "The public's perception is that Royal Mail is being broken down and what at least provided an important service and actually made a profit in more recent years has been given to competitors on a plate.
"However you want to dress up the statistics, late mail, an apparent rise in cases of hidden, lost, or stolen mail and a general apathy amongst workers are what we see on the recieving end."
